11th ANNUAL GREAT WINE ESCAPE WEEKEND

The Monterey Vintners & Growers Association invites you to escape
the ordinary with the 11th Annual Great Wine Escape Weekend. Now
entering its second decade, the Great Wine Escape celebrates Monterey
County’s world class wines and cuisine. Reflecting the diversity of the
region, more than 50 award winning wineries will be pouring.

Events during the weekend include lectures on viticulture and pairing,
tours of local wineries, and winemaker dinners. Not to be missed is the
weekend’s finale, where celebrity chefs Kris Morningstar of Blue Velvet
in Los Angeles and Rick Moonen of Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas host a
cooking demonstration—a delicious way to wrap up the weekend. Then
meander through Quail Lodge tasting the cuisine from over ten local
Monterey restaurants and pair them with your choice of Monterey wines.

together the talents and resources of its members, partners and
community in order to promote and support leadership in the art, the
science and the business of wine. Founded in 1974, they are a non profit

CHRISTMAS IN THE ADOBES

This community-wide event Monterey’s historic adobes lit by candlelight
and luminarias. This is the only time of year that many of these
buildings are open to the public, and open in the evening. Most of the
historic buildings are in close proximity to each other so that visitors
are able to walk to any or all of the historic houses. Once inside each
building, docents will tell about its history.

Each house is decorated and hosts activities which match its history.
For example, the Custom House, California’s oldest public building, will
be the site of a fandango, as this was the site of many dances since its
construction in 1827. Casa Soberanes, a home typical of Mexican
California, will offer musical entertainment from the 1840s, as well as
Mexican hot chocolate. For those wanting to know more about the life of
Robert Louis Stevenson, the Stevenson house provide tours, readings, and
a bag-piper. Other historic buildings include the Larkin house, the Old
Whaling Station, Casa Serrano, Colton Hall, and many more.
