Brazilian Guitar Quartet
65th Annual Bach Festival
California Rodeo Salinas

One of the Monterey Peninsula's premier music eventsthe Carmel Bach Festivalis celebrating its 65th year with a splendid program of concerts, master classes, and talks. The event spans three weeks, from July 27 through August 4, with programs every day of the week.

Regular Festival-goers will find familiar events on the schedule, including the Intermezzo recitals, intimate chamber music presented in All Saints Church, Carmel, and Carmel Mission Basilica; Twilight concerts such as "Love Letters from the 18th Century" in the Chapel in the Forest; and the main concert series, with performers like the Brazilian Guitar Quartet (pictured above) and the controversial Vivaldi virtuousos Red Priest.

For 2002, new features include three Family Concerts that help introduce young listeners to classical music; special performances at Asilomar in Pacific Grove; and Guests of the Fest. The last features soloists and groups playing at high noon and at 9:00pm in Candlelight Concerts in All Saints Church.

When it comes to extreme sports, who could ask for more thrills and excitement than bronco-busting, bull-riding and lickety-split barrel racing? Or more finesse than the elegance of cutting horse displays? Or great displays of teamwork than bull-dogging and team cutting?

The 92nd California Rodeo (pronounced Roh-day-oh around here) comes to Salinas July 18-21, complete with all the pageantry of Miss California Rodeo, the charm of the Kiddie Kapers Parade, and the dare-devilry of the freestyle bullfighting contest. You mustn't miss a minute of it!
