HistoryFest Monterey
HistoryFest Monterey
Toast the Coast!

The past is like a fairy tale to some folks: a little hard to believe in, because there's nothing left to smell or taste or hear.

HistoryFest Monterey 2002 will change your mind. It presents "living history" at more than a dozen fascinating venues all around Old Monterey, including the Presidio (where the 11th Cavalry is recreated), Custom House (look for the old salt and his monkey out front), and Colton Hall (where costumed dancers bring the last days of Mexico's rule to life).

Pick up a festival 'passport' when you arrive, and collect stamps for all the places of history you visit.

Join the jolly monk who represents the 26th Annual Monterey Wine Festival, and taste the wares of 125 wineries over the weekend of April 18-21. In addition to sampling new releases and old favorites, you can attend a host of educational seminars. Among the most intriguing: "Beyond color codinglife after white wine and fish," "Que Syrah Shiraz," and "Wine for breakfasteye-popping wines to start the day."

Celebrity chefs marry fine wines with delicious dining, as Chef Paul Prudhomme, of K-Paul's in New Orleans, dabbles in culinary magic, and George Hirsch, well-known television chef, presents "Food, Wine and the Great Outdoors." The meals are as tempting as the wines.
