High RPM Event That's All Go-CARTs
A Serious Passion for Dance

June 7-9 brings the premier motorsports event in Northern California to Monterey: Round 5 of the 20-round 2002 FedEx Championship Series for CART's Champ Cars. The 83-lap main event will feature the top open-wheel drivers in America including Jimmy Vasser, Kenny Brack, Michael Andretti, Scott Dixon, Paul Tracy, rookie Townsend Bell, Adrian Fernandez, and last year's winner, Max Papis.

These drivers take the 2.238 mile, 11-turn road course at speeds averaging 110 mph. Dedicated fans arrive to snap up great viewing spots on Friday at 7am, but there's excitement all weekend long, with key races Saturday at 3pm (CART Toyota Atlantic race), and Sunday at 10:45am (Barber Dodge Pro Series race), 1:30pm (Shell 300 race), and 4:45 (Mazda Speed Cup race).

Serious dancers are rosining their toe-shoes and stretching their muscles for the second annual Monterey Dance Week, an intensive week of master classes that culminates in two performances (May 31 and June 1) by professional dancers and new choreographers.

Guest teachers include Lawrence Pech (ballet and pointe), Mel Wong (Cunningham technique) and Charles Anderson (ballet). Anderson's company, Moving Arts Dance Company, presents a lyrical contemporary ballet entitled Hush, with music by Bobby McFerrin and Yo Yo Ma and choreographed by Anderson.

The program is held at the all-new SpectorDance Studio and Performance Space in Marina, May 27-June 2. For more information about the master classes or performance tickets, visit www.spectordance.org, or call 831-384-1050.
