Do some Saturday afternoon (2-4pm) retail therapy at Monterey's Del Monte Center shopping plaza, and you'll hear some very special live music, dedicated to raising funds for musicians who lost their instruments and their livelihoods in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, sponsored by the Center, KRML jazz radio, and the Dixieland Monterey Festival.

Four days of films, speakers, panels, theater, and bus or walking tours, all celebrating Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck. This year's theme - Awards: The Price of Fame - explores not only Steinbeck's many prizes (including a Pulitzer and a Nobel), but his reactions to receiving them.

Playwright Ken Ludwig plays fast and loose with The Bard's A Midsummer Night's Dream as he retells the real-life story of how Warner Brothers made the play into a movie in the 1930s (which starred Jimmy Cagney and Dick Powell).
