Kayaking on Monterey Bay or Elkhorn Slough is an uplifting experience. Monterey Bay Kayaks has specialized in natural history tours, classes, rentals and sales since 1985. A B Seas Kayaks and Beachside Kayak Tours & Bike Rentals also rent kayaks.
If you want to investigate the inland reaches of Elkhorn Slough, you might try Elkhorn Slough Safari, a seven-mile ride on a 27 ft. pontoon boat that leaves Moss Landing and gives the visitor an exceptional look at slough ecology. The tour lasts about two hours and advance reservations are required.
A different kind of excursion is the Sea Life Tours Glass Bottom Boat. Sea Life's "Glass Bottom Belle" provides a 25-minute tour of the harbor on calm waters, suitable for every age. Every 30 minutes, "Belle" departs, from sunrise until sunset. Sea Life's "Baywatch" tours of the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary offer excellent views of whales, dolphins, seals, sea otters and birds.
If you fancy seeing marine life as it lives in the open ocean, sign up to take a whale-watching trip. In addition to the virtual year-round presence of whales, cruises beyond the bay encounter otters, dolphins, orcas, and much more.
There are reputable companies with experienced captains and guides all around the bay. See our Whale Watching section for more information.
