Events Calendars Constantly Updated

The 2006 calendars of events you'll find on our website are always susceptible to last-minute additions and changes, especially as we progress through the year (some smaller organizations can rarely be sure of event dates six months or more away). All events can be found on the annual calendar, or displayed throughout the site according to type of event (music, sports, historical, family, etc.).

Monterey Activities and EventsThere are more than 250 events, performances and festivals throughout the year in Monterey County, attracting thousands of people annually. Many come to enjoy the exhibitions and events that run continuously year round. The largest weekly event in California is right here in Monterey: the Old Monterey Market Place is a colorful experience of super-fresh produce, local crafts, and tantalizing smells that's held rain or shine, every Tuesday.

Annual festivals honor the artichoke, seafood including squid and clam chowder, tomatoes and wine, with produce- and wine-lovers gathering to celebrate their favorite harvest with cooking contests, music and fun. Golf tournaments, rodeos, races and air shows attract sports enthusiasts. Heritage festivals honor the area's Italian, Turkish, Scottish, Greek, Portuguese and Hispanic settlers, while special days commemorate authors such as John Steinbeck and Robinson Jeffers.

Visit the websites linked to our calendar listings for more detailed information, and check local listings in the newspaper when you arrive for last-minute music, theater and activities.

Did You Know?
Pacific Grove's Feast of Lanterns owes its inspiration to the popularity of a turn-of-the-century china pattern known as Blue Willow. The Feast of Lanterns, which celebrated its Centennial in 2005, was created by the Methodist and Women's Civic Club of Pacific Grove in 1905 as a one-off pageant with which to close their annual Chautauqua Assembly. The Feast now comprises a whole week of festivities, closing with fireworks and the reenactment of the Blue Willow legend by Queen Topaz and her court.
