Pacific Repertory Theatre celebrates its 21st year with a season entitled "A New Journey", presenting plays that have won a host of awards, including Olivier Awards for Best Play and Best Musical, Tony Awards and Pulitzer Prizes. An early highlight of the season was the performance of Carmel poet Robinson Jeffers' adaptation of "Medea", the Greek tragedy by Euripides, directed by Obie Award-winning actor and director Joseph Chaikin. It also continues its ground-breaking "Royal Blood: the Rise and Fall of Kings" cycle, begun in 2001, which will present all ten of William Shakespeare's history plays by the end of 2004.
In addition to its repertory season at Carmel-by-the-Sea's Golden Bough and Outdoor Forest theaters, Pacific Repertory is renowned for its School for Dramatic Arts, offering youngsters aged 7 and up a chance to learn about playwriting and production, musical theater and even stage combat. PacRep's Arts & Crafts Fairs (held in April, June and November) present juried artwork and highly creative crafts in the open-air Custom House Plaza in Monterey.
