Jesse, while a resident of Maui, Hawaii, began his Sumi-e art career at the Maui Senior Citizen Center, when he announced..."I'm retired, I want to be creative, what have you got!?" So at age 62, he began his adventure in Japanese Ink and Brush Painting.

His subject matter follows traditional images but his inspiration comes to him via Haiku and Senyru, through poems and thoughts of nature and human nature. By sensitive and truthful observation, one finds the sense of "WAKE"; Less is more, Beauty in simplicity. He signs his work in Japanese using his Hawaiian name, Haoa on his Hanko (signature seal). The name refers to breath of life and energy that flows, that you find in his work.

Jesse offers workshops, classes, and private instruction in schools and art societies. He has served on faculty of, University Of Hawaii Adult Education and Tahoe Parks And Recreation Dept. With over 8 years of his own intensive study under his Sen Sei,Tashio (Harold) Murayama. His work can be found in private collections throughout many countries.

Presently his work is shown at, Kaze Art Gallery in the San Carlos Court on San Carlos St., off Ocean Avenue in Carmel, Ca.
