Henry Miller Library
Highway One, Big Sur
About: Intriguing library and small park devoted to the works and life of controversial novelist Henry Miller, author of The Rosy Crucifixion trilogy, The Air-Conditioned Nightmare, and Big Sur and the Oranges of Hieronymous Bosch.
Hours: Thurs-Sun, 11am-6pm.
Admission: Free.
National Steinbeck Center
One Main Street, Salinas
About: Extensive interactive exhibits explore the life, times, and literary works of Nobel Prize-winning author John Steinbeck. Special gallery shows include "My California: Views from the Golden State" juried art exhibition. Plus: the fun and fascinating Agriculture Museum.
Hours: Daily, 10 am-4 pm.
Admission: $10.95.

Offer: Free admission for Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey County residents on May 7, 14, and 21, when special music, dance and hands-on activities for kids take place.
Robinson Jeffers Tor House
26304 Ocean View Ave, Carmel
About: In the 1920s, poet Robinson Jeffers built this sturdy stone house and adjoining Hawk Tower by hand for his family, creating an appropriate setting to find inspiration for his mystical, romantic ballads.
Hours: Fri-Sat, hourly tours from 10am-3pm by reservation only.
Admission: $7 adults, $4 college students, $2 students (children under 12 not admitted).

Oldtown Artwalk
May 5
Oldtown Salinas
About: Amble around Oldtown Salinas and discover the very lively art world of Monterey's county seat. Forty venues present art, live music, snacks, book-signings and more.
When: 5-8pm.
Admission: Free.
Tor House Garden Party
May 7
26304 Ocean View Ave, Carmel
About: Visit the stone house built by poet Robinson Jeffers and delight in tours, tea-time treats and live music from bagpipers to harpists to pianists.
When: 2-5pm.
Admission: $15 for adults 12 and older, $10 for seniors.
"My California" in Music & Stories
May 7, 12, 21
National Steinbeck Center, One Main Street, Salinas
About: A fun and creative day awaits at the National Steinbeck Center, with music and stories inspired by the "My California" juried art exhibit on display in the museum's special gallery.
When: 10am-5pm.
Admission: Free with museum admission of $10.95.

Offer: Free admission for residents of Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties.
Robinson Jeffers night program at Point Sur
May 12
Highway 1, Big Sur
About: Tour the Point Sur Lighthouse, perched 360 feet above the Pacific followed by refreshments and a poetry reading in the station barn. The event ends with a moonlight stroll back down the hill. Advance reservations required.
When: 6-10pm.
Admission: $20.
Henry Rollins in Concert
May 13
Henry Miller Library, Highway One, Big Sur
About: Actor, musician and spoken-word performer Henry Rollins comes to the Henry Miller Library for a special one-night-only benefit performance. From punk bands to films like Dogtown and Z-Boys to his own radio show, Rollins is as unique as Miller was.
When: 8pm.
Admission: $40 or $100 (commemorative supporter ticket).
