Wineries in the Salinas Valley

Of the nine recognized American Viticultural Association appellations in Monterey County, seven are located in the Salinas Valley. A combination of warm Salinas Valley weather, and cooling coastal breezes from the Monterey Bay make for a texture-rich California growing region.

There are more than 2 dozen wineries in the Salinas Valley, and a number of wine tasting rooms. The central point for wine tasting is Soledad, with other tasting rooms in Gonzales, and along River Road between Soledad and Salinas. A handful of varietals seem to stand out, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Visit the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association website for a tasting room map, and additional information on Monterey County Wine Country. Chalone, Paraiso Vineyards, and Hahn Estates/Smith & Hook Winery all have tasting rooms that are open to the public and are located in Soledad.
